Fulfilling the will of God for your life is not a one-time event but a process. It will require faith and patient endurance. What you start in faith must be continued in faith, which is what patient endurance really is. Patient endurance is simply faith over a prolonged period of time. God’s word instructs you to “follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.” – Hebrews 6:12. If this were viewed as an equation it would look like this: Faith + Endurance = God’s Promises Received or God’s will fulfilled.
Where will you obtain this ability to endure in faith? “the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.” – Romans 15:4. The ability to walk by faith over a prolonged period of time comes from the Scriptures. The belief that God allows problems in your life to make you stronger or develop patience is incorrect. Satan brings problems your way, attempting to steal your faith (see Mark 4:16-17). God brings His word into your life to make you stronger and the Holy Spirit in your life produces patience (see 1 John 2:14 and Galatians 5:22). The problems give you an opportunity to grow and develop in your faith, which is already in you through God’s word. Simply resist problems but submit to God and His word.
The ability to keep going, to endure in faith and run with patience the race that is set before us, comes by keeping our focus on Jesus and His word. Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “... let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.  We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured...”
A great example of the importance of keeping our attention focused on Jesus and his word is found in Matthew 14:22-33. Peter walked on water as long as he kept his focus on Jesus and what Jesus had said to him. But when he began to look at the wind and the waves, his circumstances, he began to sink. The circumstances did not sink Peter. His attention to the circumstances sank him. Keep your focus on Jesus and His word, not the problems coming against you, and you can see God’s will fulfilled in your life. - By David Cannon
