Could you use a little more peace in your life? Have you felt more stressed than blessed? Have you or are you currently experiencing an emotional roller coaster ride? Have you ever felt so low and overwhelmed by circumstances that you weren’t sure you could make it through the day? Perhaps, one minute you are feeling like “I’ve got this” only to be faced with yet another disappointment or “stress point”.
Emotions are a by-product of what the mind focuses on. Emotions follow thoughts. If your emotional state has been bouncing back and forth from one extreme to another, it’s because your thoughts have been bouncing back and forth from one extreme to another. Scripture tells us, “… he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind…. he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Being double minded and wavering in our faith results in instability. On the other hand, being single minded and fully trusting God will result in peace that passes all understanding. “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7
However, if you focus your thoughts on God and His word, trusting in Him, you will experience peace. “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”– Isaiah 26:3. Your emotions are following your thoughts. Peace is a by-product of what you think on. If your peace thermostat is reading low, adjust your thought settings higher. What are you allowing your mind to dwell on? If you are not experiencing God’s peace, it’s because you are thinking on the wrong things.
“Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always.” – Philippians 4:8
